Tom Bagley is an illustrator, musician and instructor born and raised in Calgary. After a few early childhood years spent in Edmonton and Toronto, he has resided here since 1974.

Tom has been working professionally since 1988, when he graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design. Having latched onto lifelong interests in dinosaurs, monsters and rock & roll at quite a young age, his work has been used in numerous publications and advertising campaigns as well as on books and CD covers. He has also illustrated 25 years worth of posters for various bands and venues across Canada and abroad.

Drawing inspiration from such sources as old comic books, movies, paperback covers, children’s books, animation and advertising design, Tom combines a “vintage” look with modern subject matter, using a variety of commercial illustration techniques.

For the last few years, he has been enjoying the challenges of teaching the arcane secrets of Comics and Cartooning to a young clientele at the North Mount Pleasant Arts Centre.

Scott Kowalchuk is co-creator of the acclaimed series The Intrepids (Image Comics). Below is an excerpt from FFWD’s article on the subject:

The Intrepids is a retro-style tale about a band of orphans who set out to counter the threat of mad scientists under the tutelage of an aging inventor whose inventions give the scientists enhanced powers. The series is a throwback to the freewheeling adventure comics of the ’60s, and Kowalchuk’s illustrations evoke that era brilliantly.

The first issue sold out within its first week on newsstands in March 2010 and it was quickly sent to the printers for another run. It has received favourable reviews from many leading comic sites, in addition to a profile in USA Today.

This is his first title with Marvel.

Riley has made a name for himself with the mysterious creatures of folk mythology in Proof, written by co-creator Alex Grecian, and Multiple Personality Disorder counter-intelligence agents called Triplets in Cowboy Ninja Viking, written by AJ Lieberman, both titles from Image Comics.

‘Proof’ is the nickname of John Prufrock, a well-mannered, well- dressed agent for The Lodge, a covert organization tasked with managing trouble-making cryptids. Proof also happens to be bigfoot, putting him in sometimes uncomfortable sympathy with the plight of his wild and weird subjects. It’s up to him, his no-nonsense partner Ginger Brown, and colourful cohort at The Lodge, to investigate and neutralize these creatures before they become anything more to the public than merely legendary.

In Cowboy Ninja Viking, a covert unit of agents selected for their multiple personality disorder become rogue assassins and must be taken down by one of their own, leading to unexpected character collisions as they change behaviour mid-conflict.

A graduate of the Alberta College of Art & Design, Rossmo has also created artwork for IDW, ESPN, Skratch and Skratch Magazine, and taught sequential art at ACAD.

He will be signing, sketching and selling original art at the show on October 16, 2011.
